Some days, you lay bricks. Others, you move boulders.
Usually, writing the Grace Commentary feels like building a wall one brick at a time. But not this year. In 2025, writing the commentary has felt like shifting two enormous boulders.
Boulder 1, or Romans, dominated the first half of the year. By the time Romans was uploaded, 100,000 words had been added to the commentary.
Boulder 2, or the Parables of Jesus, is dominating the second half of the year. When all the Parables are polished and uploaded, they will account for another 100,000 words.
I have been working on the Parables off and on for 10 years, but I didn’t start formatting them for the commentary until this year. It has been a hugely rewarding job, and I can’t wait to share the finished work with you.
Spoiler: There is so much treasure in the Parables that we miss when we read the Bible through graceless lenses.
Here’s a picture of our progress over the past 12 months:

In the middle of the year, I took a couple of weeks off to write an ebook called The Grace Revolution: Who, What, When, How and Why. It’s the story of the modern grace movement and how we got here.
You can get The Grace Revolution for free by signing up as a free member on my Patreon page. It’s totally free and it means you’ll get occasional updates about what I’m doing beyond writing the commentary. Did I mention that it’s free?
Moving boulders sounds exhausting, but I get a ton of satisfaction writing about grace. I’ve lost track of how many entries the Grace Commentary has, but it has well over 10,000, with more entries added weekly.

What leaders are saying about The Grace Commentary
“The Grace Commentary is a breath of fresh air and a MUST for every pastor and believer in rightly dividing scripture.” ~Ben Dailey, lead pastor, Calvary Church, Irving, TX
“Most commentaries are not focused on New Covenant theological perspectives which leaves them in the realm of mixture. I have used Paul Ellis’ website for years when researching subjects. I am happy to have another excellent resource from Paul to use in my studies.” ~Clint Byars, lead pastor, Forward Church, Sharpsburg, GA

Pretty outstanding Paul. A testimony to the work of the ‘grace’. Well done man, I must take a look at your book on the grace movement.
