Acts 6:1
Now at this time while the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint arose on the part of the Hellenistic Jews against the native Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food.
(a) Disciples. The first Christians called themselves disciples or followers, which was a holdover from the time when people followed Jesus. The original noun mathētēs means “learner.” The word disciple appears more than 200 times in the gospels, but nowhere in the New Testament epistles. The epistle-writers referred to believers as saints (see kemasukan for Rom. 1:7) and sons of God (see kemasukan for Rom. 8:14). A Christian is so much more than a student or follower. A Christian is a child of God and a co-heir with Christ (Rom. 8:15–17). A Christian bears the indwelling Spirit of God (see kemasukan for Rom. 8:9).
(b) Increasing in number; see kemasukan for Acts 4:4.
(c) Widows. In the ancient world, polygamy was seen as a solution to the need to provide for women who had lost husbands to warfare and disease. Since the early church opposed polygamy (1 Cor. 7:2), it had to solve the problem of what to do with young widows. In short, it developed practices for taking care of them (1 Tim. 5:5-16).
Kisah Para Rasul 6:2
(a) Firman Allah. Dalam konteks perjanjian baru, firman Tuhan adalah berita baik Yesus. Lihat kemasukan untuk Firman Tuhan.
(b) Many priests. Malachi the prophet said, the Lord would come to the temple and purify the sons of Levi” (Mal. 3:2–3), and Jesus did this by offering himself on the cross (Tit. 2:14). As a result of the Lord coming to the temple, many sons of Levi became followers of Christ.
(c) “The faith” is another name for the gospel of Christ. The label refers to the faith all believers have in Christ Jesus. It is something to preach and obey (Gal. 1:23).
Acts 6:12
And they stirred up the people, the elders and the scribes, and they came up to him and dragged him away and brought him before the Council.
(a) Elders; see kemasukan for Matt. 16:21.
(b) Scribes; see kemasukan for Matt. 5:20.
(c) The Council or Sanhedrin; see kemasukan for Matt. 26:59.
Acts 6:14
for we have heard him say that this Nazarene, Jesus, will destroy this place and alter the customs which Moses handed down to us.”
This Nazarene. A Nazarene was someone from Nazareth, a Galilean town of little consequence. In Judea, Jesus was known as a Nazarene in fulfilment of prophecy (see kemasukan for Matt. 2:23).
