Acts 26:1

Agrippa said to Paul, “You are permitted to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and proceeded to make his defense:

Agrippa was Herod Agrippa II, not to be confused with his father Herod Agrippa I (see indgang for Acts 25:22).


Acts 26:11

“And as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and being furiously enraged at them, I kept pursuing them even to foreign cities.

(en) I punished them. It is the nature of the law to accuse, convict, charge, condemn and punish.

(b) Blaspheme. The original verb blasphēmeō means “to malign” (e.g., Tit. 3:2), “to abuse” (e.g., Mark 15:29), “to speak evil of” (e.g., Rom. 14:16), or “to slander” (e.g., Rom. 3:8). It is speaking falsely of someone in a way that injures their good name.

Damaskus. The Damascus Road conversion of Saul is one of the most dramatic scenes in the Bible and the story is told no less than three times (Acts 9:3-6, 22:6-11, 26:13-18).


Apostelgerninger 26:13

ved middagstid, o konge, så jeg på vejen et lys fra himlen, klarere end solen, der skinnede alt omkring mig og dem, der rejste med mig.

Lysere end solen. This was not a metaphorical light but a light bright enough to blind Saul (Acts 22:11). What exactly did Saul see?

Although we can’t prove it, it’s possible that Saul was blinded by the face of Jesus. On a couple of occasions in scripture, Jesus shone like the sun. “He was transfigured before them; and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as light” (Matt 17:2, see also Rev. 1:16). Barnabas told the disciples that Saul “had seen the Lord on the road” (Acts 9:27).


Apostelgerninger 26:14

"Og da vi alle var faldet til jorden, hørte jeg en røst sige til mig på hebraisk: 'Saul, Saul, hvorfor forfølger du mig? Det er svært for dig at sparke mod spidserne.'

(en) hebraisk dialekt. Nogle bibeloversættelser har Herren, der taler det almindelige sprog aramæisk, men det originale ord her betyder hebraisk (hebraisk). (Aramæisk er ikke en hebraisk dialekt, men et separat sprog.) Herren talte til Saul på hans modersmål og på den hebraiske bibels sprog. Han talte ikke til ham på græsk.

Apostelgerninger 26:18

at åbne deres øjne, så de kan vende sig fra mørke til lys og fra Satans herredømme til Gud, så de kan modtage syndernes forladelse og en arv blandt dem, der er blevet helliget ved troen på mig.'

(en) Vend fra mørke til lys. I den nye pagt beskrives omvendelse ofte som en tilbagevenden til eller at vende sig til Gud (se indgang for Acts 26:20).

(b) Modtag tilgivelse. Tilgivelse er en gave at modtage, ikke en løn, der skal tjenes.

(c) Syndernes tilgivelse. All your sins – past, present, and future – were dealt with on the cross (Heb. 9:26). In Christ, you have the forgiveness of sins (Col. 1:14). In him, you are completely and eternally forgiven according to the riches of his grace (Eph. 1:7).

Den nat, han opstod fra de døde, instruerede Jesus sine disciple om at forkynde den gode nyhed om fuldstændig tilgivelse eller forladelse for alle synder (se indgang for Luke 24:47). After the cross, the apostles described forgiveness in the past tense and as a gift to receive (see indgang for Acts 13:38).

(d) Dem, der er blevet helliget. Throughout scripture, Christians are consistently referred to as sanctified saints (Acts 20:32, 26:18, Rom. 1:7, 12:1, 15:25, 1 Cor. 1:2, 6:11, 16:1, 2 Cor. 1:1, Eph. 1:1, Php. 1:1, Col. 1:2, Phm. 1:5, Heb. 2:11, 10:10, 14, 13:24, Jude 1:1).

Christians are holy because Jesus makes them so (Heb. 10:10, 14). Collectively Christians are known as a holy priesthood and a holy nation (1 Pet. 2:5, 9). The church is both God’s holy temple (1 Cor. 3:16-17, Eph. 2:21), and the Lord’s radiant and holy bride (Eph. 5:27).

(e) Helliggjort. To be sanctified is to be made holy or whole and in Christ you are completely complete (Col. 2:10). Jesus is the Holy One (Mark 8:38), and “if the root is holy, so are the branches” (Rom. 11:16). Christians are holy branches connected to the Holy Vine. See entry for Holiness.

(f) Helliget ved tro. Alle Guds velsignelser, inklusive tilgivelse, frelse, retfærdighed og helliggørelse, kommer til os frit af nåde og modtages ved tro. Troen tvinger ikke Gud til at tilgive os eller hellige os. Men troen er den kanal, som nåden strømmer igennem. Se indgang for Eph. 2:8.


Apostelgerninger 26:20

men blev ved med at erklære både til dem fra Damaskus først, og også i Jerusalem og derefter i hele Judæa-regionen og endda til hedningerne, at de skulle omvende sig og vende sig til Gud og udføre gerninger, der er passende for omvendelse.

(b) Jerusalem was both the home of Judaism and the birthplace of the New Testament church. Although many of the believers had left Jerusalem on account of persecution, the original apostles were still there (Acts 8:1).

(c) Omvend dig og vend dig til Gud. In the new covenant, repentance is often described as a return or turning to God (Matt. 13:15, Mark 4:12, Acts 3:19, 9:35, 11:21, 14:15, 20:21, 26:17-18, 20, 2 Cor. 3:16, 1 Th. 1:9).

Many scriptures in the Old Testament link repentance with turning from sin (e.g., 2 Chr. 7:14). In the old covenant, God’s blessings were conditional on you humbling, praying, seeking, and turning. But in the new covenant, all of God’s blessings are poured out on us of the riches of his grace (Eph. 1:3, 7, 2:7).

Because of the change in covenants, it is a mistake to define repentance as turning from sin. Preach “turn from sin or you’re not saved” and you are preaching pure law. You are prescribing sin-rejection as a means for salvation. This false gospel leaves sinners worse off because it empowers the sin that enslaves them while scorning the grace that might otherwise save them (1 Cor. 15:56).

I den gamle pagt indebar omvendelse en vending fra, som til gengæld fra synd. Men i det nye betyder omvendelse en vending til, as in turn to God (Acts 20:21). (d) At udføre gerninger, der er passende for omvendelse. Ligesom tro uden gerninger er død, er omvendelse uden gerninger død.

Faith and repentance are two sides of the same coin. They are both nouns that are evidenced by verbs – the things we do. So what are the deeds which are appropriate to repentance? The New Testament lists hundreds of imperative statements but the chief of all is to believe in Jesus. Believing in Jesus is both the will, the work and the commandment of God (John 6:29, 40, 1 John 3:23). See indgang for Jas. 2:14.


Acts 26:21

“For this reason some Jews seized me in the temple and tried to put me to death.

For this reason. Paul is drawing a conclusion based on what he has just said. “For this reason” was one of Paul’s favorite sayings. See indgang for Rom. 1:26.


Apostelgerninger 26:22

"Så efter at have fået hjælp fra Gud, står jeg den dag i dag og vidner for både små og store og siger intet andet end det, som profeterne og Moses sagde, ville finde sted;

(en) Efter at have fået hjælp fra Gud. Asking God for help in our time of need is how we receive grace (Heb. 4:16). God is our very great Helper who rides across the heavens to help us (Deu 33:26). He is our very present help in times of trouble (Ps. 46:1). See indgang for Heb. 13:6.

(b) sagde Moses. Moses havde en åbenbaring om den kommende Kristus; se indgang for Acts 7:37.


Acts 26:28

Agrippa replied to Paul, “In a short time you will persuade me to become a Christian.”
