Hebreo 1:1

Ang Diyos, pagkatapos Niyang magsalita noong unang panahon sa mga ninuno sa mga propeta sa maraming bahagi at sa maraming paraan,

(a) Panimula. The Letter to the Hebrews is the good news of Jesus packaged for a Hebrew audience. It’s written for all sorts of people, including those who believe in Jesus, those who are yet to believe in Jesus, and those who are trying to reconcile Old Testament traditions with new covenant freedoms (Heb. 4:14, 6:9-10).

(b) Nagsalita siya … sa maraming bahagi at sa maraming paraan. The word of God or the word of the Lord can be conveyed via prophecies (2 Sam. 24:11, 1 Kgs. 14:18), dreams (Num. 12:6), visions (Gen. 15:1), the Law (Num. 36:5, Deu. 5:5, Is. 2:3), and angels (Luke 1:35). However, the primary way God reveals himself is through his Son (see next verse).

Hebreo 1:2

(a) Nitong mga huling araw. The last days commenced when God began speaking through his Son. The last days describe the age that began when Jesus walked the earth. “And it shall be in the last days that I will pour forth of my Spirit on all mankind …” (Acts 2:16–17). According to Peter, this last days’ prophecy was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost.

Jesus divides history into two parts. In the first days of history, people looked forward to the coming of Christ when he would build his house. In these last days, he is building his church, and the nations are streaming in (Is. 2:2). The first half of history ended with Christ coming in humility. The second half ends with him returning in glory. The last days are last because they refer to the last half of history. So far, the last days have lasted for 2,000 years. They may last for many more, but ultimately the last days will end on the last day when Christ returns to judge the living and the dead (John 6:39–40, 12:48).

(b) Sinalita sa atin sa Kanyang Anak. Jesus is the Word of God made flesh (John 1:14, Rev. 19:13), and the exact radiance or representation of God the Father. Jesus is God explaining himself to the human race. He is God’s selfie.

(c) Tagapagmana ng lahat ng bagay. In Christ we are heirs of the kingdom (Col. 1:12, Jas. 2:5), heirs of the earth (Matt. 5:5, Rom.4:13), and heirs of all things (John 17:10, Heb. 1:2, Rev. 21:7).

(d) All things. All of creation including the heavens and the earth (Eph. 1:10, 22).

Hebreo 1:3

At Siya ang ningning ng Kanyang kaluwalhatian at ang eksaktong representasyon ng Kanyang kalikasan, at itinataguyod ang lahat ng bagay sa pamamagitan ng salita ng Kanyang kapangyarihan. Nang Siya ay makapaglinis ng mga kasalanan, Siya ay naupo sa kanan ng Kamahalan sa itaas,

(a) Ang ningning ng kanyang kaluwalhatian. The majesty, splendor, and beauty of the Father is revealed in the Son. Since God will not share his glory with another (Is. 42:8), Jesus is not “another.” He is no mere man; he is God. “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30).

(b) Ang eksaktong representasyon ng Kanyang kalikasan. The Son is exactly like the Father. “He is the image of the invisible God” (Col. 1:15).

Hebreo 1:4

na naging higit na mabuti kaysa sa mga anghel, gaya ng nagmana Siya ng isang pangalang higit na mahusay kaysa sa kanila.

(a) Mas mabuti o napakahusay, as in “Jesus is vastly superior to the angels.” The angels were created by Jesus (John 1:3, Col. 1:16). They worshipped him at his birth (Heb. 1:6), and ministered to him in the wilderness (Matt 4:11, Mark 1:13).

(b) Mga anghel are spiritual beings whose home is heaven (Mark 12:25). The original word (aggelos) ay nangangahulugang mga mensahero at paminsan-minsan ay ginagamit upang ilarawan ang mga mensaherong tao (tingnan pagpasok for Luke 9:52). Most of the time the word refers to heavenly messengers. Notable angels named in the New Testament include Gabriel (Luke 1:19) and Michael (Jude 1:9).

Hebrews 1:5

For to which of the angels did He ever say,
“YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU”?
And again,
“I WILL BE A FATHER TO HIM AND HE SHALL BE A SON TO ME”?

(a) To which of the angels. God never spoke to any angel the way he spoke to Jesus.

(b) You are my son. The quote comes from Psalm 2:7.

Hebrews 1:6

And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says,
“AND LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM.”

(a) Firstborn. Firstborn has two meanings. It can mean the one born first (e.g., Jesus was Mary’s firstborn son (Luke 2:7)) or it can mean first in rank or preeminent. The latter meaning is implied here. Jesus was not the first being created; he is the Creator (Col. 1:16) who is worshipped by the angels. Like a firstborn, he is the heir or owner of creation (Heb. 1:2). Creation belongs to him.

(b) Let all the angels. The quote is not found in the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament) but it comes from Deuteronomy 32:43 as it appears in the Septuagint (the Greek Old Testament: “Rejoice, ye heavens, with him, and let all the angels of God worship him…”).

Hebrews 1:7

And of the angels He says,
“WHO MAKES HIS ANGELS WINDS, AND HIS MINISTERS A FLAME OF FIRE.”

(a) Mga anghel; tingnan mo pagpasok for Heb. 1:4.

(b) Who makes? The quote comes from Psalm 104:4. God made the angels to be ministers, but the Son is the eternal King (see next verse).

Hebrews 1:8

But of the Son He says,
“YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER,
AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM.

(a) Of the Son. God calls the Son “God” proving the deity of Jesus Christ.

(b) Your throne. The quote comes from Psalm 45:6.

Hebrews 1:9

“YOU HAVE LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HATED LAWLESSNESS;
THEREFORE GOD, YOUR GOD, HAS ANOINTED YOU
WITH THE OIL OF GLADNESS ABOVE YOUR COMPANIONS.”

(a) You have loved righteousness. The quote comes from Psalm 45:7.

(b) Therefore God, your God. God the Father has exalted God the Son and given him a name above all names.

Hebrews 1:10

And,
“YOU, LORD, IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH,
AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;

(a) You Lord. The quote comes from Psalm 102:25.

(b) Laid the foundation of the earth. The Son was God’s agent of creation (Col. 1:16). “He made the world” (Heb. 1:2).

Hebrews 1:11–12

THEY WILL PERISH, BUT YOU REMAIN;
AND THEY ALL WILL BECOME OLD LIKE A GARMENT,
AND LIKE A MANTLE YOU WILL ROLL THEM UP;
LIKE A GARMENT THEY WILL ALSO BE CHANGED.
BUT YOU ARE THE SAME,
AND YOUR YEARS WILL NOT COME TO AN END.”

(a) They will perish. The quote comes from Psalm 102:26–27.

(b) You will roll them up. At the end of the age the heavens and the earth will be metaphorically rolled up. “By his word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment” (2 Pet. 3:7).

(c) They will be changed. Jesus is making all things new. The old fallen order will be rolled up like a garment and Jesus will reveal a new heaven and earth (2 Pet. 3:13).

(d) You are the same. Like God the Father who never changes (Mal. 3:6), God the Son remains the same. “He continues forever” (Heb. 7:24). His reign will never come to an end (Luke 1:33, Rev. 11:15).

Hebreo 1:13

Ngunit kanino sa mga anghel ang Kanyang sinabi kailanman, “Umupo ka sa AKING KANAN, HANGGANG SA GINAWA KO ANG IYONG MGA KAAWAY NA PATUNGAN NG IYONG MGA PAA”?

(b) Sit at my right hand. The quote comes from Psalm 110:1. The Son shares his Father’s throne; see pagpasok for Matt. 22:44.

Hebreo 1:14

Hindi ba't silang lahat ay mga espiritung naglilingkod, na isinugo upang maglingkod para sa kapakanan ng mga magmamana ng kaligtasan?

(a) Ministering spirits. Jesus, the Servant, is greater than the angels who serve or minister. Examples of angels helping people are found in the Old Testament (1 Kgs. 19:5, 2 Kgs. 1:15, Dan. 6:22) and the New (Acts 5:19, 10:3, 12:7–10).

(b) Magmana ng kaligtasan. In Christ we are heirs of salvation (Heb. 1:14), heirs of eternal life (Matt. 19:29, Mark 10:17, Eph. 1:14, Tit. 3:7), and heirs of blessed and gracious life (Eph. 1:3, 1 Pet. 3:7, 9). See pagpasok para sa Mana.

(c) Kaligtasan. The original word means deliverance or rescue. Jesus is the great Deliverer who rescues us from our enemies (Luke 1:71). See pagpasok para sa Kaligtasan.
