Juan 14:1
“No se turbe vuestro corazón; creed en Dios, creed también en Mí.
Cree en Dios, cree también en Mí. Los judíos hicieron lo primero; Los cristianos hacen ambas cosas.
Hay diferentes tipos de fe pero sólo uno salva. Los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos creían en Dios, pero su fe no iba acompañada de la obra de creer en Aquel que él había enviado (ver entrada for Jas. 2:18). Theirs was a dead and useless faith.
Juan 14:6
(a) La verdad is another name for Jesus. It’s also a name for God the Father (1 John 5:20) and God the Holy Spirit (1 John 5:6) Truth is not a manmade construct but is defined by the One who is truth personified. Both grace and truth are fully realized in Jesus (John 1:17). If we are to stand against the enemies lies, we need to be girded or encircled with the belt of truth (Eph. 6:14).
(b) The life. Two kinds of life are described in the Bible; the psique– o la vida del alma que heredamos de Adán y el zoe– or spirit life that comes from God (John 5:26). It’s the second kind of life that Jesus is describing here. See entrada para la Vida Nueva.
(C) El padre; ver entrada for John 4:21.
(d) But through Me. God reveals himself through prophecies, laws, and visions, but the clearest picture of God the Father comes through the Son. “No one has seen the Father, except the One who is from God” (John 6:46). “No one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son reveals him” (Matt. 11:27). It is through Jesus alone that we encounter the true character of God.
Juan 14:9
(a) Show us the Father. The Father is exactly like the Son (Heb. 1:3). “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30).
¿Cómo es Dios? Él es como Jesús. Si has visto al Hijo, has visto al Padre.
(b) El padre; ver entrada for John 4:21.
Juan 14:12
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.
(a) El padre; ver entrada for John 4:21.
(b) The works that I do, he will do also. Jesus said it, and the apostles proved it. The works he did – proclaiming liberty to the captives, opening blind eyes, delivering the oppressed – we can do too.
When Jesus sent out the disciples, he gave them the authority to do what he had been doing. “Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness” (Matt. 10:1). Later, he repeated the exercise with seventy disciples (Luke 10:1). The disciples returned saying that they had done what Jesus commissioned them to do. “The seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name’” (Luke 10:17).
(C) Greater works. The disciples emulated the works of Christ before Pentecost. After Pentecost, they were empowered to do even greater works. In addition to healing the sick and delivering the oppressed, they were able to release the life of the Holy Spirit – something that had not been possible before the Spirit was given. In short, they were able to col-labour with the Lord to make new creation believers. The apostles preached the gospel, and when people responded in faith, the Holy Spirit made them new.
A sick person who is healed will eventually die, but someone who has been made new by the power of God will never die (John 11:26, Gal. 6:8). Jesus and the disciples healed people who were part of Adam’s family, but after Pentecost, a new species was created – the new creation family of God. Being born again is a greater work than merely being healed or delivered. The new creation is the greater work that Christ spoke of.
John 14:13–14
“Whatever you ask in my name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
(a) Whatever you ask in my name; ver entrada for Matt. 16:19.
(b) El padre; ver entrada for John 4:21.
Juan 14:15
“Si me amáis, guardaréis mis mandamientos.
(a) Si me amas. Our love for the Lord is a response to his great love for us (1 John 4:19).

Juan 14:16
“Yo pediré al Padre, y os dará otro Consolador, para que esté con vosotros para siempre;
(a) El padre; ver entrada for John 4:21.
(b) el ayudante. Life is too big for any of us to handle, but the good news is that God is our very great Helper (Deu. 33:26). “The Spirit also helps our weakness” (Rom. 8:26).
Otras lecturas: "¿Quién es tu ayudante?"
(C) Él puede estar contigo para siempre.. The moment you said yes to Jesus, God stamped you with his seal of ownership and gave you his Spirit as a guarantee of your salvation (2 Cor. 1:22, Eph. 1:13). The Holy Spirit doesn’t come and go but he dwells or abides in you forever.
Juan 14:17
You are not a motel room for the Lord. You are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19). You are his forever home (John 14:16, Rom. 8:9, Heb. 13:5).
Juan 14:18
“No os dejaré huérfanos; Vendré a ti.
I will come to you. Jesus is referring to Pentecost and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, a.k.a., the Spirit of Christ (Acts 1:5, Rom. 8:9).
Juan 14:19
“Dentro de un poco de tiempo el mundo ya no me verá, pero vosotros me veréis; porque yo vivo, vosotros también viviréis.
(a) Because I live. Everything that makes the new creation new is based on these three words. We truly live, porque cristo vive. Tenemos paz, esperanza y alegría, porque cristo vive.
(b) You will live also. In Adam, death reigned over us; in Christ, we reign in life (Rom. 5:17). In Christ, we can be free and whole and enjoy abundant and everlasting life.
Juan 14:20
“En aquel día sabréis que yo estoy en mi Padre, y vosotros en mí, y yo en vosotros.
(a) Mi padre; ver entrada for John 4:21.
(b) Tú en mí y yo en ti.. You are one with the Lord. The best way to understand this is to picture the relationship of a vine and its branches (John 15:5). The branches are part of the vine and the life of the vine flows through the branches.
Intimacy is not something we ever need long for. (He is already with us.) We don’t have to beg God to rend the heavens and come down. (He already did.) And we never have to fear that he might abandon us as orphans. (He promised he wouldn’t.) The good news declares that now and forever more, you are in intimate union with the Lord (Eph. 2:13).
Juan 14:21
“El que tiene Mis mandamientos y los guarda, ése es el que Me ama; y el que me ama, será amado de mi Padre, y yo le amaré y me revelaré a él”.
Loved by my Father. The God that Jesus revealed is a loving Father (John 10:17, 14:23, 15:9, 16:27, 17:26), who loves us as much as he loves his Son (see entrada for John 17:23).
Juan 14:23
(a) Si alguien me ama. No one can love Jesus unless they have first received the love of God. We love because he first loved us (1 John 4:19).
(b) Él cumplirá mi palabra. When you know how much Jesus loves you, he is easy to trust and obey (John 14:15). His great love for us inspires us to trust him.
In the new covenant, obedience follows trust, and we trust him because we know his love. However, someone with an old covenant mindset reverses the order: “If you wish to earn his love, you must keep his commandments.” Perversely, this mindset will have the very opposite effect as it will cause you to trust in yourself while alienating you from Christ (Gal. 5:4).
(C) Mi padre; ver entrada for John 4:21.
(d) lo amare. The God that Jesus revealed is a loving Father (John 10:17, 14:21, 15:9, 16:27, 17:23, 26).
(mi) Hagamos nuestra morada con él. Just as the Holy Spirit abides with us (John 14:17), so do the Father and the Son. “Surely I am with you always” (Matt. 28:20).
Juan 14:24
“El que no me ama, no guarda mis palabras; y la palabra que oís no es mía, sino del Padre que me envió.
(a) El padre; ver entrada for John 4:21.
(b) Who sent me. On numerous occasions, Jesus told his disciples that he was not from earth but had come or been sent from heaven. See entrada for John 6:38.
Juan 14:26
“Pero el Consolador, el Espíritu Santo, a quien el Padre enviará en mi nombre, él os enseñará todas las cosas y os recordará todo lo que os he dicho.
(a) El espíritu santo is given to the believer as a seal of God’s ownership and a pledge or guarantee of our inheritance (2 Cor. 1:22, Gal. 3:5, Eph. 1:14). Through the agency of the Holy Spirit, God pours his love into our hearts (Rom. 5:5). The Holy Spirit testifies that we are children of God and encourages us to cry out “Abba, Father” (Rom. 8:15, Gal. 4:6). He also intercedes for us and helps us to pray as we should (Rom. 8:26–27). The indwelling Holy Spirit is the means by which the Lord empowers us to live in union with himself and bear his spiritual fruit (Rom. 8:11, Gal. 5:22–23).
The Holy Spirit is as known as the Spirit of God (Matt. 3:16, 12:28, Rom. 8:9, 14, 1 Cor. 2:11, 14, 3:16, 6:11, 7:40, 12:3, 2 Cor. 3:3, Eph. 4:30, Php. 3:3, 1 Pet. 4:14, 1 John 4:2), the Spirit of Christ (Rom. 8:9, Php. 1:19, 1 Pet. 1:11), the Spirit of the Lord (2 Cor. 3:17), the Spirit of truth (John 14:17, 15:26, 16:13, 1 John 4:6), the Spirit of holiness (Rom. 1:4), the Spirit of glory (1 Pet. 4:14), the Spirit of grace (Heb. 10:29), and the Helper (John 14:6, 26, 16:7).

“No hablaré mucho más con vosotros, porque viene el gobernante del mundo, y no tiene nada en mí;
(a) El gobernante de este mundo; ver entrada for John 12:31.
(b) He has nothing in Me. Nothing means no hold, no claim, no power, and no ownership because Jesus was not from Adam’s enslaved line. Jesus was born outside the prison. Only a free man can ransom a slave.
